New Boiler Operator (Fireman) Products

PanGlobal is discontinuing the Limited Power Engineer (Fireman) Handbook and publishing two new products in its place.

The first of these products, the Fireman Boiler Operator Handbook for Saskatchewan , presents learners with the knowledge concepts set out by the Technical Safety Authority of Saskatchewan. This handbook has been revised to reference current legislative and regulatory terminology in the province of Saskatchewan, notably removing reference to Limited Power Engineer as the revised regulations removed that category of certification.

The Boiler Operator (Fireman) Handbook presents the same concepts applicable for Boiler Operators and may be used as a general technical manual as Saskatchewan-specific legislation has been removed. PanGlobal anticipates that the material within the Boiler Operator (Fireman) Handbook will support Boiler Operator's in other jurisdictions where, previously, such material may have been absent.

Both products will be available for purchase in print format starting 2 July 2021. eBook versions will be available for sale the week of 5 July 2021.

Announcing the PanGlobal Corrections Contest Winner

Congratulations to Adam Anton!

We are pleased to announce Adam Anton as the winner of PanGlobal’s Corrections Contest. This contest, which ran for over six months, saw learners and instructors alike submitting corrections of PanGlobal’s learning products. Over the course of the contest, 80 submissions were received by our Subject Matter Experts, reviewed and compared to our current materials, and corrected where necessary.

Adam submitted ten (10) corrections which were reviewed and incorporated into PanGlobal's learning materials. As the contest winner, Adam has been awarded with a full set of Second Class (Ed 2.5) learning materials. When notified of his selection, Adam had the following to say:

"I am so pleased to have actually won a set of books from PanGlobal. It comes at a great time during a pandemic where just about the only thing there is to do is study! I have used the CIRKA content for all of my exams and some 2nd class exams, and would (and definitely have) recommended them to friends and workers. CIRKA won’t show you the answers which is good, because it enforces the learner to actually look in the books and find the correct answer. I would definitely recommend the CIRKA content for anyone pursuing any class of exams."

We thank everyone who participated in the contest for their submitted corrections, as the results further strengthen our accurate and precise materials. All corrections found on an ongoing basis are made available in MyPower under Corrections and Updates and are published in future print runs of our learning materials.

CSA B51 & B52

Full CSA code books now available for purchase through PanGlobal

In June, we announced that the Extract of CSA Standards would be discontinued due to changes in CSA Group’s content licencing. To support safety in the Power Engineering and thermal utilities industries, we have established a resale agreement with CSA Group to distribute the full codes.

We are happy to announce that the full B51: Boiler, pressure vessel, and pressure piping code and B52: Mechanical refrigeration code are now available for purchase as a print product from our eStore.

Product Information

CSA B51, Boiler, pressure vessel, and pressure piping code (nineteenth edition)

In keeping with CSA Group’s goal of harmonizing its standards with those of other countries to the greatest extent possible, CSA’s Technical Committee on Boilers and Pressure Vessels and its Subcommittees have, in the course of developing this Standard, worked closely with the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors in the United States and with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) committees responsible for producing the National Board Inspection Code and ASME’s Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code.

There are three parts to this Standard:

  1. Part 1 contains requirements for boilers, pressure vessels, pressure piping, and fittings. It is intended mainly to fulfill two objectives: first, to promote safe design, construction, installation, operation, inspection, testing, and repair practices; and second, to facilitate adoption of uniform requirements by Canadian jurisdictions.
  2. Part 2 contains requirements for high-pressure cylinders for the on-board storage of natural gas, blends of natural gas and hydrogen (hydrogen blends), and hydrogen as fuels for automotive vehicles. It has been harmonized with International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Standard 11439:2013, Gas cylinders — High pressure cylinders for the on-board storage of natural gas as a fuel for automotive vehicles. In addition, the CSA Subcommittee responsible for developing Part 2 has consulted with the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) committees responsible for developing CSA/ANSI NGV 2-2016, Compressed natural gas vehicle fuel containers, and CSA/ANSI HGV 2-2014, Compressed hydrogen gas vehicle fuel containers. The members of these two committees are dedicated to harmonizing their standards as far as circumstances allow.
  3. Part 3 contains requirements for compressed natural gas and hydrogen refuelling station pressure piping systems and ground storage vessels. These requirements have been allotted a separate part of the Standard to emphasize the differences between them and the requirements in Part 1, thereby facilitating their application.

CSA B52, Mechanical refrigeration code (twelfth edition)

The twelfth edition of this Standard provides the minimum requirements for the design, construction, installation, inspection, and maintenance of mechanical refrigeration systems, and is complemented by the practical implementation guidance B52 Handbook, helping to minimize the risk of personal injury. This Standard applies to all refrigeration systems installed, whether in new or existing premises, to systems that undergo a substitution of refrigerant, and to parts that are replaced in or added to the system.

Refrigeration Addendum

PanGlobal has added an important addendum on Refrigeration concepts to our eBook platform

This addendum contains new learning objectives and content in refrigeration safety based on the recommendations made by Technical Safety British Columbia (TSBC) in its investigation reports of the October 2017 ammonia leak. The report examines two ammonia leaks, one occurring at the Fernie Memorial Arena in Fernie, BC, which resulted in the deaths of three people, and the other in October 2018 at a pet food manufacturing plant in Langley, BC, which prompted an extensive evacuation of the area. As this information is critical to operator safety, IPECC, SOPEEC, and PanGlobal Training Systems are making it available to learners immediately at no additional cost. In addition, this material will also be published in the forthcoming editions of Power Engineering Fourth Class, Power Engineering Fifth Class, and Refrigeration Plant Operator.

The new content of this addendum emphasizes the testing of secondary refrigeration systems, safe operation of ammonia refrigeration systems, and maintenance of refrigeration equipment. Some content may be familiar from the courses mentioned above, and the TSBC investigations suggest that it is worth repeating if this content will contribute to keeping all Power Engineers and operators safe.

Upcoming LMS Changes

PanGlobal will be updating its Learning Management Systems (LMS), in an effort to better support learner success and future initiatives!

Our first step is moving all MyPower Study users to the new platform. Starting Monday February 3, 2020, the following learners will be redirected to the new LMS:

  • All learners logging in with a textbook username and password
  • All learners logging in to online resources with an eBook purchase or subscription

The MyPower Learning LMS, used by educators and for corporate training, will be phased out over time. More details will be communicated in the near future.

Logging In

To those logging in with a textbook username and password:

  • Your (new) login details will be the same default ones printed within the front-inside cover of your textbook(s). If you had previously changed the password for your textbook profile, it will be reset to the default username and password found on the front-inside cover of your textbook(s).

To those logging in with a profile linked to an eBook purchase or subscription:

  • Your username remains the same; however, your password has been reset. To access your profile you will need to use the Forgot password? link on the login page. Follow prompts to submit the email address associated with your profile.

Note: Ensure that mypower.panglobal.org is added to your email settings (client) as a Trusted Domain and use the directions in the password reset email to access your profile.

In an effort to control transfer errors, users with profiles accessing self-enrolled resources only will not be transferred. This will impact users whose profiles are not accessing the online resources or are only accessing a combination of the following:

  • Answers/Solutions
  • Tools & Resources
  • Updates with Corrections

To gain access of these resources again, please (re)create an account and re-enroll to the required resources.

With the update to the new LMS, previous self-assessment attempts will not be transferred. MyPower Study previously allowed attempt reviews immediately after submitting a self-assessment and this means that learners will now have refreshed self-assessment attempts. Your length of access will remain unchanged, so take advantage of the additional attempts while you have access!

Please submit any questions or support requests to the Login Inquiries department through our Support Ticket system.

CIRKA now Supports 2nd Class Review

What Should I Know? How Much Do I Remember?

Do I Really Understand? Am I Ready?

Drawing from updated question banks, aligned with PanGlobal’s learning materials, CIRKA delivers an equal number of questions from the textbook content. After completion and submission of the Audit, a numerical overview of submission vs. complete success is provided immediately on both an Overall and Individual Topic basis. Attempts are unlimited during the tool subscription period and can be repeated multiple times to clarify the results.

CIRKA also provides links to a detailed Overview (Outcomes & Objectives) of the information within each Topic. When compared with the results of the Audit, this provides the learner with a comparison of their current understanding and the expectations of mastery. If this assessment points to the need for additional learning, the user may choose to review their current materials or purchase access to additional resources.

Supporting 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th Class Review, two subscription options are available for all our CIRKA products at pgknowledge.com under the product category of “CIRKA”:
